Websites should offer more than just good looks. We create websites that are optimized for conversion, speed and security, paired with the right blend of SEO. That is exactly what helped us make The Skopje Project conference so successful. Revisiting the idea of the power of architecture and urban design as the drivers of reconstruction of societies and bringing upfront the ideas of international solidarity is what The Skopje Project Conference was all about.

The Skopje Project Radovan Mishchevich & Kenzo Tange

On the morning of July 26, 1963, Skopje was struck by a devastating earthquake that left more than 80% of buildings in ruins. This unfortunate event was followed by an unprecedented effort by United Nations to reconstruct and redesign the city. The city of Skopje was considered an international symbol of solidarity as it was rebuilt from the ruins with the help of almost 90 countries.

The project for reconstruction of the city of Skopje presented world architects and urban planners with the chance to accomplish a true world project, the collaborative project promoting the universal values of humanity achieved through the tools and instruments of architecture and collaboration. The Skopje project demonstrated the importance of architecture as a collaborative effort in a divided world, by promoting the belief that the construction of the human habitat is a humane way to solve socio-political and economic obstacles of the contemporary world.

Following this idea, a number of world architects were invited to Skopje, including Kenzo Tange from Japan, Jaap Bakema and Van den Broek from Holland and Constantin Doxiadis from Greece, to contribute to this effort with their ideas, plans and designs. The reconstruction of Skopje enabled Tange to demonstrate the true potential of Metabolist architecture, Bakema’s Open Society, and Doxiadis’ Ekistics theory.

Nearly 60 years later, back in 2020, the idea for a modern revival of The Skopje Project was born, with a conference that was supposed to be held in October 2020. We won the tender for the visual identity of The Skopje Project as well as the development of the website and the conference preparation, but unfortunately COVID-19 happened. As a result, The Skopje Project was developed nearly three years later – just in time to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the devastating Skopje Earthquake which was the reason behind the original Skopje Project in the first place.

60 years after the plan of the famous Japanese architect Kenzo Tange for Skopje, world architects from across the world met again in Skopje to discuss the power of architecture and urbanism.

The main goal of The Skopje Project today is to reconsider the power of architecture and urban design as drivers of the reconstruction of societies and cities around the world. The Skopje Project was a great opportunity for world architects of that time to create a truly world-class project that would promote the universal humanistic values created through architecture.

It was an absolute honor to have our talented designers come up with creative solutions for the visual identity of The Skopje Project and we enjoyed every minute of putting all the pieces together. Skopje is our city and the chance to be part of this incredible project was challenging, yet personally rewarding. The success of the conference and the satisfaction of our client made our effort completely worth it.

We started working on The Skopje Project in April 2020 in the midst of the Covid-19 outbreak, all enthusiastic about the conference scheduled in September. New Moment created the visual identity for the conference, built the website and the social media materials. However, the pandemic changed our course and we had to postpone all the activities for 2023 when we finally realized our long-awaited project.

New Moment supported us in the update of the website information, design and production of the communication materials, event management and logistics for the conference.

It was a real pleasure to work with New Moment’s professional and dedicated team and given the opportunity I would gladly hire them again.
